Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Koa ("the Service"), operated by Koa ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms.
1. The Service
Koa is an AI-powered study platform for university students. It provides note-taking, AI tutoring, flashcards, calendar management, study sessions, and related academic tools.
The Service is provided "as is." We work hard to keep it reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that AI-generated content will be error-free.
2. Accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to use Koa.
- You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
- One account per person. Do not share your account.
- We may require a university email address for registration.
3. Your Content
You own everything you create in Koa - your notes, flashcards, calendar events, and study data. We do not claim ownership of your content.
By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and transmit your content as necessary to provide the Service (including sending content to AI providers for tutoring features).
4. AI Features
- AI-generated content (tutoring responses, flashcards, study questions) is for educational purposes only.
- AI responses may contain errors. Always verify important information with your course materials or instructors.
- Do not use AI features to generate content for submission as your own work in violation of your university's academic integrity policies.
5. Premium Subscription
- Koa offers a free tier and a paid Premium tier.
- Premium subscriptions are billed monthly ($9.99 CAD/month) or annually ($95.88 CAD/year).
- New Premium subscriptions include a 7-day free trial.
- You can cancel anytime. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
- If you subscribed via the iOS app, you can manage or cancel your subscription in iPhone Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. Apple's payment terms apply to in-app purchases.
- Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. For iOS purchases, refund requests should be submitted through Apple. For web purchases, contact us.
- Payments are processed by Stripe (web) or Apple (iOS). We do not store your payment card details.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract data from the Service
- Upload malicious content or attempt to compromise the Service's security
- Use the Service to harass, spam, or harm others
- Resell or commercially redistribute the Service
7. LMS Integration
If you connect your university's Learning Management System (Canvas, Moodle, or Brightspace):
- You are responsible for complying with your university's acceptable use policies
- We access your LMS data in read-only mode using the token you provide
- You can disconnect your LMS at any time
8. Termination
- You can delete your account at any time. We will delete your data within 30 days.
- We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
- If we terminate your account, we will provide reasonable notice unless the violation requires immediate action.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
- We are not responsible for academic outcomes. Koa is a study tool, not a substitute for attending class or doing your own work.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada.
